The 'new' lighthouse, now fully automatic with its new high pitched squeak (as opposed to its previous manly horn) is part of a national set up under the auspices of Trinity House (Links). This is paid for by the taxpayer!.

The old lighthouse is now in private hands and to exercise the thighs on the 269 steps to the top will cost about 3.2 euros. Surprising there are so few suicide jumps. The country cannot be in as bad a condition as we are lead to believe.
