There has been a fantastic response to the original blog regarding the destruction of the little memorial for two Polish Spitfire pilots lost in the area during the war – and not just the many hundreds who have viewed the blogs but directly from individuals who have made donations and pledges to help in re establishing a memorial. Thank you for those.
However it is possible a local interested party will offer to construct a new memorial, along the lines of the original and in the same location, all for free. Details of proposals should be known in a couple of weeks and these will be circulated to all interested parties for their comments.
Owen Leyshon of the Romney Marsh Countryside Partnership, the overseers of the management of Dungeness Estate, has confirmed the new memorial will remain in the current quiet location but there will be a small signpost within the car park area directing visitors to it.
