Dungeness lifeboat was called out on 28th and 29th January to search for a missing Belgian fishing boat with four souls on board which had lost contact in heavy seas some 20 miles off the coast. Some debris was found but little else. Two bodies eventually turned up on the coast of Boulogne. Just a reminder what dangers there are to bring food to our tables.
On a brighter note the annual car washing day was held at the Lifeboat Station on Saturday 31st January where, for a fiver, the crew, fully and sensibly decked out in their bright oilskins cleaned dozens of cars netting over £1000.00 for the lifeboat charity. Advertised locally as SOS (soap our saloons) a queue had formed from the opening time of 10am and a steady stream of dirty cars kept everyone busy well into late afternoon. Great!
