BBC 1, in celebrating 75 years of the '999' memergency service number, made the 2012 award to Dungeness Lifeboat crewman Gary Clark in recognition of his role in the rescue of a yacht on Janaury 2nd this year. In very heavy seas and force 11 winds Gary transeferred to the yacht, 'Liquid Vortex' and managed to secure a line which then enabled the vessel to be safely towed to Dover Harbour. This is just one example of the vital and praiseworthy work that these unpaid crewmen carry out many times during the year. The award, presented by Lenny Henry and Kirsty Young was accepted by Gary 'on behalf of all the crew on the Liefeboat and those who provide the essential back up service both at Dungeness and Dover harbour'. A fantistic rescue and a much deserved honour! Full story and more about the lifeboat service please see the Dungeness Lifeboat website through our link.
